Rep. Garrison announces committee assignments

COLUMBUS - State Representative Jennifer Garrison (D-Marietta) will be re-appointed to and serve as, the ranking, Democratic member, of the House Juvenile and Family Law Committee today.

“I am excited to continue to serve families and children,” said Garrison, an attorney who practiced family mediation.

Rep. Garrison will also serve on the Education Committee, the Public Utilities Committee, the Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Primary and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the Finance Committee.

“I will continue to focus on education issues and I hope to have input on how to decrease the burden on homeowners when it comes to paying for education,” said Garrison.

Rep Garrison is pleased to be on Public Utilities so that the committee can revisit the deregulation of electric companies as the Legislature has not resolved the competition in prices.

Finance and Appropriations is widely considered to be one of the most powerful committees in the Ohio House of Representatives due to its role in setting spending priorities for state government. During odd-numbered years, it draws up a two-year state operating budget. Primary and Secondary Education Subcommittee is where the primary and secondary school budgets are assigned.

“I look forward to working with Governor Ted Strickland and other state elected officials from both parties on setting a new course for Ohio’s economy,” said Garrison.
